Summary:

Responsible for the development of Small Business Administration loan opportunities. The SBA Loan Officer establishes and maintains a direct calling effort on outside loan referral sources as well as a direct calling effort on potential clients. This position will serve as the point of contact for the bank’s SBA program assisting lenders, with analysis as it pertains to SBA marketing, loan processing, and/or liquidation guidance. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing credit analysis for SBA lending activities and SBA form processing. The candidate will provide analytical services and SBA processing in the administration of loan accounts. The individual may also meet with current and potential lenders and outside customers to obtain information needed for SBA and loan processing.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develops sales leads independently and by teaming with Commercial Loan Officers and Market Leaders to attain new business relationships and product sales.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, banking status, and other information to determine feasibility of granting loan.
  • Compiles SBA loan package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms. Collaborates with Loan Service Provider(s) to insure completeness of application package and supporting documentation.
  • Formally presents loans to the Board of Directors and Management Committees for approval.
  • Calls and visits clients and prospects to promote and sell bank products and services teaming with Commercial Loan Officers and Market Leaders. Promotes and cross-sells other bank products and services as appropriate to client, such as business checking.
  • Compiles and analyzes market research data in order to develop or increase the competitiveness of current product and services offered.
  • Has established Broker relationships to assist in prospecting and developing new business.
  • Responds to client information requests or inquiries involving small business loans.
  • Oversees and ensures accuracy and performance of SBA loan administration and processes, such as receipt of applications from prospective applicants, completeness of loan packages, and timely processing, funding, and closing of committed loans.

Essential Skills:
  • Demonstrated success in SBA lending and Commercial and Industrial lending (C&I), and achievement in the industry.
  • Successful experience and proven track record in growing sales.
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with clients, prospects, business partners and direct reports.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and presentation skills with exceptional interpersonal and communicative skills with both individuals and groups.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

Education or Experience:
  • Bachelors in Business Administration, Finance or equivalent.
  • Formally credit trained and able to pass an assessment test with Chief Credit Officer.
  • A minimum of five years of previous SBA lending/credit experience is required.
  • Must have recent experience underwriting SBA 7(a) loans with a SBA Preferred Lender.
  • Knowledge of SBA lending activities and formal SBA training is highly recommended.
  • Must have credit knowledge, local contacts, and active SBA lending experience.
  • Strong financial analytical abilities.
