Chief Credit Officer

Position Summary: Monitor and manage credit risk within the bank and its lending activities including evaluating the credit processes and discipline within Lending Department – strengthening when appropriate and actively participating in the credit/investment approval and risk management processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish a strong credit culture within the Bank.
- Review credits prior to submission to Management Loan Committee and the board and provide feedback/guidance to the lenders that will strengthen the credit (if needed) and conform to policy, and ensure that policy exceptions are duly noted.
- Recommend changes to Lending and Compliance Policies as needed.
- Review and provide risk ratings for loans up to $500,000. These loans will be sampled by outside Loan Review Consultants.
- Coordinate review of the larger loans with the outside Loan Review Consultants and report on overall portfolio quality based on own and consultants’ review.
- Review Allowance for Loan Loss to ensure it is accurate and reflective of the quality of the loan portfolio.
- Improve Board and departmental reporting on loan portfolio, including review of outside Loan Review consultants’ ratings, geographic product and customer concentrations.
- Interface with the Board of Directors, OTS, the Federal Home Loan Bank and other outside parties on matters concerning credit quality.
- Establish, review and update Risk Asset Acceptance Criteria (RAAC’s).
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs, including due diligence with loan acquisitions.
Background and Experience:
- Strong commercial and real estate lending
- Understanding of OCC and NYS Banking Regulations
- Good verbal communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- At least 10 years experience with portfolio level credit administration including experience in capital markets instruments and a broad range of commercial finance and commercial real estate credit underwriting and risk management activities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
