Loan Workout Specialist (Commercial & Retail)
Position Summary
The Loan Workout Specialist is responsible for the active management and resolution of the bank’s problem loan portfolio, including both commercial and retail credits. This position plays a critical role in minimizing credit losses through proactive borrower engagement, decisive action plans, and disciplined recovery strategies. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, results-oriented professional with extensive experience in loan restructuring, collections, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and asset recovery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of commercial and retail problem loans, including delinquent, criticized, classified, and non-performing credits.
Develop and execute comprehensive workout strategies designed to maximize recovery and minimize loss exposure.
Analyze borrower financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and collateral positions to determine appropriate courses of action.
Prepare detailed action plans and workout recommendations for management and credit committee approval.
Monitor borrower performance and ensure adherence to agreed-upon repayment or restructuring terms.
Manage loans involved in foreclosure, bankruptcy, litigation, and other legal proceedings.
Work closely with internal and external legal counsel to protect the bank’s interests.
Coordinate collateral valuations, appraisals, and property inspections.
Negotiate repayment plans, loan modifications, settlements, and forbearance agreements.
Prepare comprehensive reports on portfolio status and potential loss exposure.
Ensure accurate risk ratings, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in loan workouts, collections, credit administration, or special assets.
Demonstrated experience handling both commercial and retail problem credits.
Strong knowledge of foreclosure processes, bankruptcy proceedings, and legal collections.
Proven ability to negotiate complex financial arrangements and settlements.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency with banking systems and Microsoft Office.
