Position Summary

Responsible for developing, managing, and expanding commercial banking relationships through loan production, deposit acquisition, treasury management sales, and relationship management activities. The VP Commercial Lender serves as the primary point of contact for commercial clients and is responsible for portfolio growth, credit quality, relationship profitability, and supporting the Bank’s mission of serving local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and underserved communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage commercial banking relationships with business owners, investors, nonprofit organizations, and commercial real estate clients.
  • Generate new commercial loan opportunities including CRE, multifamily, owner-occupied real estate, mixed-use properties, C&I facilities, lines of credit, equipment financing, and SBA lending opportunities.
  • Grow commercial deposits and core operating accounts while enhancing overall relationship profitability.
  • Identify and refer treasury management opportunities including ACH, wire services, merchant services, positive pay, remote deposit capture, and related solutions.
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of prospects through centers of influence, referral partners, branch referrals, and community involvement.
  • Conduct preliminary credit analysis and structure lending opportunities prior to underwriting submission.
  • Partner with Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Treasury Management, Retail Banking, and Compliance teams to deliver a superior client experience.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging credit risks; participate in portfolio reviews and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare annual relationship reviews, covenant monitoring, and ongoing portfolio maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate CRM and pipeline reporting records and provide management reporting as required.
  • Support the Bank’s CDFI mission by identifying opportunities to serve minority-owned businesses, nonprofits, and underserved communities.
  • Ensure compliance with all Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and lending guidelines.
  • Participate in civic, business, professional, and community organizations to strengthen the Bank’s presence and generate new business.
  • Achieve annual goals related to loan production, deposit growth, fee income generation, and portfolio quality.

Background and Experience

  • 7–10+ years of commercial lending and relationship management experience within a community, regional, or commercial banking environment.
  • Experience covering privately held businesses, nonprofit organizations, investors, and commercial real estate owners with revenues generally ranging from $1MM to $100MM.
  • Formal commercial credit training with expertise in CRE and C&I lending.
  • Demonstrated track record of commercial loan production and deposit generation.
  • Experience managing, maintaining, and growing a commercial loan portfolio.
  • Knowledge of treasury management products and commercial deposit strategies.
  • SBA 7(a) and 504 lending experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial loan documentation and loan closing processes.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, loan origination systems, and digital banking solutions.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, compliance requirements, and credit risk management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
